Mum-of-four, 31, on sad reality of marriage after having kids and how she only has a bikini wax once a YEAR

Mel Watts, 31, from New South Wales, Australia, has spoken out about "frustrating" and "repetitive" nature of family life, and how motherhood has turned her into a "hairy, cranky wife".

Mel has been married to husband Nolan for seven and only ever gets a bikini wax on birthdays because she "feels bad for him".

They are raising four children – Ayden, 12, Mel's son from a previous relationship, along with Ivie, 6, Indie, 3, and one-year-old Sonny – but in the Facebook status she came clean about the difficulties they have faced now their priorities are different.

The mummy blogger, who has hundreds of thousands of followers across her Modern Mumma social media accounts, said: "The long date nights have gone. The sleep-ins are non existent. The surprise weekends away, we can no longer afford them.

"The late nights are now laying there silently with our backs to each other hoping the other one will get up for the crying baby.

"The new underwear – seriously who even made edible underwear 'excuse me whilst I finish my mouthful of cotton candy, s*** I've got a hole in my tooth, that hurt'… completely impractical."

"I was mad at myself for changing. It is no ones fault. It's just a moment in our life where I can say – it's not all roses and handcuffs."

While many parents will feel the pressure of having to keep up a facade that family life is running smoothly, Mel adds: "Children are hard work. They do put a damper on things.

"Some people may be able to keep their s*** together but some people, like us, we find it hard to balance.

"The children have become the number one priority and at some point we need to learn to put our relationship towards the top of that priority list.

"I think in time it will become that way again. You have to make it past these difficult times to get there. It's not that its even difficult, its just different. And sometimes different is really hard."

Mel explained that she and Nolan used to send gushy texts professing their love for each other, but now it's more likely to be about how she has her period and needs her hubby to get her sanitary products.

But for the mum-of-four she wouldn't change it for the world, because her marriage is all about "commitment" and "contentment" as well as the "frustrating" and "repetitive" times.

Mel urged people not to compare themselves to others, instead communication was key for the pair: "It’s about coming together and staying together during the good, the ugly and the children."

Fellow parents took to her comments to praise Mel for being so open, one wrote: "Well done for saying what so many of us are struggling with. You've made me feel so much better."

"This is the most insightful raw and honest posts I have read lately. Big love to you and yours babe. And a big thank you for the food for thought," said another.

A third shared: "Stuck in this phase atm! I know it will pass eventually….my husband is hanging for the phase to pass.

"Thank you for putting into words what so many of us are feeling. My NYs resolution was to be a better wife….I’m still working on it."
