'The Intruder' Star Michael Ealy Isn't Comfortable With A Gun In His Home

Would you keep a gun in your home?

Michael Ealy, who stars alongside Meagan Good in The Intruder, told ESSENCE’s Yes, Girl! podcast that he wouldn’t allow a weapon in his home.

“I think if you look at the numbers, the numbers prove that yes, there are circumstances in which having a gun in your home has proven to work…” he said. “But I do say that the science and the numbers will let you know that guns in the house will typically result in more disaster than protection.”

The actor also said that he talked about it with his wife, Khatira Rafiqzada, and agreed that he’d only be okay with a gun if there was continuous training attached to it.

“My wife has talked about it. I said…’If you’re willing to take the training and actually keep up with it yearly, then I think it’s worth it…’”

He adds that having a child, son Elijah, also makes him worried about having a weapon in the home.

“But with little ones, I’m terrified of it. I’ll be honest with you, I’m terrified of it. Because my son sees a water gun and he’s like, ‘Yeah,’ and I’m just like, ‘Yeah, that’s not good.’”

In The Intruder, Ealy and Good star in the film as Scott and Annie Russell, a young married couple who fall in love with a beautiful house in Napa Valley. After deciding to purchase the home, the house’s former owner can’t seem to let go and quickly becomes obsessed with the couple and their lives.
