Rob Delaney says he’s ‘a mess’ 14 months after tragic death of toddler son

Rob Delaney says he's still "a mess" 14 months after the tragic death of his son.

The Catastrophe star and stand up comedian lost his son Henry in January, last year.

He was just two years old when he lost his life due to a brain tumour.

Rob, 42, opened up about his grief at the annual Trust In Fashion fundraiser for charity Rainbow Trust, which provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.

Speaking about his heartache, Rob said: "I’m a mess. My child died 14 months ago and I’m basically a bag of wet rubbish. I need a lot of help. It has been very hard. It comes in waves. I’ve learned to not control how the waves come. Right now I’m sad a lot," reports the Evening Standard .

He added: "The reason I’m being honest with you and not trying to impress you, and make you think I’m cool or that I’m a tough guy, or maybe working through loss in an inspiring way, is that I have found that if a bereaved parent or bereaved sibling reads this, I want them to know that it’s okay that they feel terrible, sad, confused and so brutally humbled.

"I’ve been sad and angry and I am telling you that just in case somebody else who has suffered a terrible loss reads this — so they don’t feel like some asshole from TV has it all together. I am a life-time work in progress."

Rob spoke about how he his wife Leah spent seven months at Great Ormond Street with their son, followed by seven months at a local hospital.

They then had their son at home with them for seven months before he tragically lost his life.

The family were assigned a care worker from the Rainbow Trust during their time at GOSH.

She still visits them now.

Rob, who has three other sons with Leah, was writing the final series of Channel 4 show Catastrophe when Henry died.
