Cary stepped in as director when original director Danny Boyle dropped out over ‘creative differences’. It was reported that Oscar-winning director Danny wanted to kill off the iconic agent.

Bond 25 has reportedly been operating under the working title Shatterhand, a reference to the original Ian Fleming novels where Bond and his nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, first appeared.

Blofeld used the alias Dr Guntram Shatterhand in the 1964 novel You Only Live Twice, which follows Bond to Japan where he finds his arch- enemy living under that name, hinting at the setting and basis of the new film.

Little is known about plot developments in what will be the long-running film franchise’s latest installment.

Last month filming got underway on Bond 25 in Nittedal, Norway, where a mysterious, theatrically masked gunman was seen stumbling in pursuit of a terrified young girl as she fled across the ice.

Cameramen tracked the pair during what appeared to be a dramatic scene, filmed in a large clearing surrounded by pine trees.

Various locations in Jamaica, where Bond creator Ian Fleming once lived, and the Italian province of Matera will also be used as filming continues throughout 2019.

In Spectre, Bond was last seen driving into the sunset with sultry psychologist Swann after apprehending perennial nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

The film, which divided critics, delved into his past as he traced the origins of a mysterious ring, only to discover it belongs to a global terrorist organisation led by childhood friend Franz Oberhauser – the son of Bond’s legal guardian.

Originally thought dead, Oberhauser, played by Christoph Waltz, had instead masterminded the criminal group under the alias of Blofeld – his mother’s maiden name – with the objective of killing Bond.

Earlier this month Layer Cake star Daniel became the longest-serving Bond in history.

On April 10, the actor celebrated a record-breaking 4,527 days in the role.

Eerie: Last month filming got underway on Bond 25 in Nittedal, Norway, where a mysterious, theatrically masked gunman was seen stumbling in pursuit of a terrified young girl as she fled across the ice

Daniel, who took to our screens with his debut Bond film Casino Royale in November 2016, beat former Bond actor Roger Moore, who lasted 4,526 days in the role and Sean Connery, who spent nine years as Bond, to be the longest-serving actor.

Pierce Brosnan, who made his first appearance in the Bond movies with Goldeneye in 1995, spent seven years in the iconic role before handing it over in 2002.

While Timothy Dalton, who took to our screen with The Living Daylights in 1987, spent three years in the role and George Lazenby only one with his Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service in 1969.

Daniel’s record-breaking achievement comes after he said ‘I would rather slash my wrists than play James Bond again’ in 2015.

The comments, which came after the release of the movie Spectre, were later cleared up in an interview with American talk show host Stephen Colbert in 2017.

While speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Daniel said: ‘It was two days after I finished shooting the last movie. I went straight to an interview and someone said would you do another one?

During the show, Daniel also confirmed that he would be reprising his role as the British Secret Service agent for the 25th Bond film.

While Daniel will now hold the title of the longest-serving Bond, the late Roger Moore will still keep his title for the most amount of Bond films with a staggering seven movies under his belt.

Richard Madden, Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, James Norton, Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hardy have all been touted  as possible replacements for Craig when he leaves the role after 14 years.
