Coronation Street star Faye Brookes QUITS the ITV soap after four years of playing Kate Connor and reveals she’s off to ‘explore new opportunities’

Coronation Street star Faye Brookes has quit the ITV soap after four years of playing Kate Connor.

The actress, 31, took to her official Twitter account on Tuesday to announce the news and reveal that she is off to ‘explore new opportunities’.

She tweeted: ‘Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities.

Faye joined the hit ITV soap in 2015 as the sister of late Aidan Connor, played by Shayne Ward, and half-sister of Carla Connor, played by Alison King.

The shock news comes after the actress’ character’s fiancée Rana Habeeb, played by Bhavna Limbachia, was dramatically killed off by a collapsed factory roof on their wedding day.

Faye’s departure also comes after she revealed that she would never get ‘bored’ of Coronation Street earlier this week.  

She said: ‘It would be nice to see her happy, but I honestly don’t believe she’ll ever be the same again.

‘She’s on edge and I don’t know where that could go. Anything could happen and I love that about my job – it keeps you on your toes.

‘I don’t know how anybody could get bored here at ‘Corrie’. But I do hope she finds some sort of happiness.’

Faye’s fans were understandably devastated by the shock departure news as they flocked to the comments section to share their upset.

One person said: ‘Gutted your leaving though xx.’

A different person put: ‘So heartbroken but I wish you all the luck in the world I love you so much❤️❤️.’

Confusing: Faye’s departure also comes after she revealed that she would never get ‘bored’ of Coronation Street earlier this week

Another follower commented: ‘Good luck lovely, go spread your wings. Thank you for everything so proud of you, love and support always.’  

While a different fan added: ‘Will be gutted to see you leave, what a lovely person you are. Hope to see back in the near future. All the best Faye, i hope everything works out for you in your next adventure.’

‘Keeps you on your toes!’: ‘She’s on edge and I don’t know where that could go. Anything could happen and I love that about my job – it keeps you on your toes,’ she revealed 

The soap star, 51, who played Tracy Barlow’s ex-husband, took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to announce his decision to walk away from the programme.

The South African native revealed that he will be leaving the long-running show later in the year, but promised drama-filled appearances until then.

Robert penned: ‘Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the time has come for me to hang up the chef’s gear and head for pastures new.

‘There is still a lot of drama & shenanigans to come for Robert but I will be leaving Corrie later in the year.’

Tristan took on the role, which was originally played by Julian Kay, in 2015.
