Bill Macy Dead – ‘Maude’ Star Dies at 97

Bill Macy has sadly died.

The actor, best known for playing Bea Arthur‘s husband Walter Findlay on All in the Family spinoff Maude, died on Thursday (October 17) at the age of 97, his manager Matt Beckoff confirmed.

“My buddy Bill Macy passed away at 7:13pm tonight. He was a spitfire right up to the end. My condolences to his beautiful wife Samantha Harper Macy,” Matt wrote on Facebook.

Bill performed on Broadway as an understudy in Once More, With Feeling back in 1958, and then played a cab driver on 1966′s The Edge of Night. He also met his wife on teh set of 1969 off-Broadway play Oh! Calcutta!

He also appeared in The Jerk, My Favorite Year and The Holiday, as well as TV roles in Seinfeld, The Facts of Life and My Name Is Earl.
